Ivain Martinossi-Allibert

I am an evolutionary biologist with a strong taste for ecology. My work focuses on sexual reproduction, with a special interest for animals with separate sexes. More particularly, I am fascinated by the interactions between environmental variables, population dynamics and reproductive behavior.
During my PhD studies, I used the seed beetle Callosobruchus maculatus to investigate the ecological sensitivity of sex-specific selection and sexual conflict, using combined empirical and theoretical methods. In a later project, I developed mathematical models exploring the evolution of competition for mating in males and females from anisogamy. Finally, looking at another aspect of sexual reproduction, I studied the impact of a deleterious meiotic drivers on the mating system of Podospora anserina, a hermaphroditic fungus capable of self-fertilization.
I joined NTNU to be part of the DYNAMAR project, which investigates how environmental variation can affect sexual selection through life-history and reproductive behavior in the two-spotted goby Pomatoschitus flavescens. This fish is an exceptional model system for the study of ecological impacts on sexual selection, due to the plasticity of its reproductive behavior. My work will include data collection in the field, bioinformatics analysis and theoretical modeling.
