Dan-Anders Normann
About
Dan-Anders Normann is a doctoral fellow at the Department of Teacher Education, FYSU. I have a background as a pastry chef, a bachelor's degree in vocational education, and a master’s degree in vocational didactics. My teaching experience includes working in food and health education at the lower secondary school level and with practice candidates in the Vg3 baking and pastry program. Additionally, I have over 10 years of experience as an instructor and manager responsible for apprentices in both small and large businesses.
My doctoral research is linked to the NFR project Going Gradeless https://www.ntnu.edu/ilu/going-gradeless, where I use a mixed methods approach to investigate reduced grading practices in upper secondary school, with a particular focus on vocational programs. The project includes three studies:

A scoping review that examines the current knowledge on reduced grading practices internationally, identifying four main factors: rationales, contextual conditions, implementation, and consequences.

A qualitative interview study exploring how reduced grading practices are experienced by teachers and students in the vocational program Restaurant and Food. This study conceptualizes the dilemma “Faithful or Truthful,” reflecting the tensions teachers face between their assessment practices and the school's reduced grading policy.

A quantitative study examining how reduced grading impacts students' experiences of grade pressure across seven upper secondary schools. The study compares students in general studies and vocational programs, with and without grade-reduced assessment practices.
Dan-Anders is also involved in the project "Kompetanskepakker: innføring i nye læreplaner for lærebedrifter og prøvenemnde" 2021-2022 in collaboration with HINN on behalf of the Norwegian Directorate of Education.
