NTNU Civil security - Resources
In today's world, resources and economic preparedness have become increasingly important in global politics. Over the past 15 years, major players like the EU, the US, and China have developed strategies to protect themselves from shortages in critical areas such as food, industrial production, and the minerals needed for the green shift. For Norway, this poses challenges, from weakened international trade systems to conflicts over land use, such as between indigenous populations and mining or renewable energy projects.
This evolving geopolitical landscape highlights the need for Norway and NTNU to explore how better resource planning and management can benefit the country's economy and security. The research group on Resources is well-equipped to tackle these challenges. We bring together expertise from a wide range of fields, including geology, social sciences, and humanities, to address both domestic and international dimensions of resource management. Our work spans from fundamental geological research to studying the politics of resource consumption, industrial growth, international regulations, and preparedness for crises such as wars or natural disasters.
By combining these diverse perspectives, we aim to contribute to a more secure and resilient future for Norway.
