Exercise and lipids in overweight adolescents

Which exercise intensity has the greatest effect in terms of the lipid profile in overweight or obese adolescents?

Background

In a study with 65 overweight adolescents, we showed that three months of high-intensity interval training improved cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, blood sugar and blood pressure more than moderate-intensity training. Blood vessel function also improved most after the interval training. However, when it came to cholesterol levels, we found no difference between the groups.

However, it is not only the total cholesterol levels or the distribution between HDL and LDL particles that affect cardiovascular health, but also the size and density of the different types of lipoprotein particles. Now we want to investigate whether the two training methods still affected the lipid profile in the blood differently. For that, we use advanced methods to measure subfractions of lipoproteins.
