Dordi Kristine Austeng

About

I work as a senior consultant at the Department of Ophthalmology at St. Olav Hospital, Trondheim University Hospital, and as an associate professor at INB, NTNU. For many years I have worked half the week as a retinal surgeon at the hospital. I lead the Research Group for Eye Diseases at the hospital and at the university and I both do teaching and research.

My areas of interest are retinal diseases in both children and adults; how we can detect diseases early enough to achieve the best treatment effect and, if possible, prevent the development of serious illness. I am also concerned with how we can best utilize the health resources and at the same time provide good healthcare where patients are subjected to the least possible strain.

We currently have two ongoing randomized controlled trials in health service research in addition to two studies on vision development where we study children and young adults born prematurely. Nationally, I am involved in surgery projects to optimize both retinal surgical methods and follow-up of patients.
