Orientation Week (O-week)

Orientation Week (O-week)

Every semester, NTNU organises a welcome programme for new international students, called Orientation Week (O-Week). The O-Week consists of both both informational and social activities. Participation is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

O-week  |  2024 autumn semester

The program and dates for the O-week in the 2024 autumn semester will be announced within summer.

O-week is expected to be held in week 33 (August 12-16).

Who can participate

About 1500 international students participate in Orientation Week every August, and around 600 in January. International students who are eligible to participate in Orientation Week will receive further details by email from the NTNU International Office.

Students who are eligible to participate

  • All new exchange students
  • New international students enrolled in an NTNU master’s degree
  • New international Erasmus Mundus and Joint Nordic master’s degree students
     
  • Students doing placements or internship stays at NTNU and arrive before the semester starts. In general, PhD candidates are not eligible to participate, since they are counted as staff, not students.

Students who are not eligible

  • International students who arrived the previous semester or earlier
  • International students enrolled in a degree programme taught in Norwegian
  • Norwegian students enrolled in a master’s degree taught in English
  • International PhD students doing the majority of their PhD at NTNU
  • Friends and family of participating students

NTNU has various part-time classes to help you learn Norwegian as a second language, including a free online course.

Students coming in the autumn semester can join a 3-week intensive summer course in August. The course includes several day-trips in the surroundings of Trondheim, and a weekend excursion to nearby mountains.

Fares and tickets

Buying a ticket on the bus is expensive (NOK 60/trip). Cheaper one-way tickets can be bought from a ticket machine or by using Mobillett on your phone.
