Game Studies Research Group
As the past decades have witnessed an increasing economic and sociocultural relevance of videogames within our current media landscape, game studies has grown into a highly dynamic and thoroughly interdisciplinary field that bridges theory and practice, combining a broad range of methods from the humanities and social sciences. Against that background, the Game Studies Research Group explores the theory, history, and present of videogames and their players, focusing on areas such as:
- Videogames as aesthetic objects and approaches to textual analysis
- Videogame players and ethnographic approaches to gaming cultures
- Videogame industry and videogames as part of transmedia franchises
- Methodological problems and mixed-method approaches in game studies
Interdisciplinary dialogue between game studies and other field
