About
I am a molecular plant biologist interested in plant stress responses and cell death. I want to understand the molecular mechanisms that lead to the execution and control of cell death in photosynthetic organisms as part of the response to environmental stress.
I am from Mar del Plata (Argentina), where I studied biology at the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata (UNMdP). I then did a PhD at the Department of Phytopathology at Wageningen University (the Netherlands). During my PhD, I studied the activation and execution of cell death in tomato upon infection by the fungus Cladosporium fulvum.
After my PhD I joined the Department of Plant Sciences at Oxford University (PlantChemetics Lab) to investigate the role of apoplastic enzymes in the immune response of Nicotiana benthamiana to the bacterium Pseudomonas syringae. I then carried out a second postdoc at the School of Life Sciences at Warwick University (Ntoukakis Lab) to understand how changes in chromatin structure regulate the activation of cell death in Arabidopsis upon infection with P. syringae.
At the ´Cell Death and Communication´ group at the Department of Biology at NTNU we investigate the role of cell-cell communication during cell death of photosynthetic organisms under environmental stress. We want to understand how cells communicate during the activation and execution of cell death, and how this knowledge can be employed to improve adaptation of primary producers to a changing climate.
