Dan-Anders Normann
About
Dan-Anders Normann is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Teacher Education. He has a vocational background as a trained pastry chef, a bachelor's degree as a vocational teacher, and a master's degree in vocational didactics. He has experience from Food and Health subjects in lower secondary school, teaching experience from upper secondary school at baker- and pastry program, and over ten years' experience as an instructor and professional manager for apprentices in both large and small scale bakeries, restaurant and hotels.
His doctoral project is a part of the NFR project Going Gradeless https://www.ntnu.edu/ilu/going-gradeless where he will investigate how gradeless assessment practices affect and challenge teachers, students and school culture in vocational subjects.
In his doctoral work, he will conduct three studies:
- A scoring review study which will examine what is known about gradeless assessment practices internationally using theory of action as a theoretical framework.
- A qualitative study that focuses on vocational teachers' change of assessment beliefs and how vocational teachers transfer their gradeless assessment beliefs into practice.
- A quantitative study which will examine how teachers and pupils experience gradeless assessment, and what challenges that are linked to assessment without a grade for pupils, teachers and the assessment culture in schools.
Dan-Anders is also involved in the project "Kompetanskepakker: innføring i nye læreplaner for lærebedrifter og prøvenemnde" 2021-2022 in collaboration with HINN on behalf of the Norwegian Directorate of Education.

On a daily basis, he teaches Vocational Teacher Education and FPPU-y at NTNU.
